Command and Conquer was another release from Westwood, who had originally created Dune II. At C & C, the player was placed in a near-future world where the Global Defense Initiative fought the forces of evil NOD of world domination. The game featured an full-motion, live-action video introduction and cut scenes, and had a pulse-pounding soundtrack
The graphics had a strong isometric arrangement, and the units had more frames of animation. Some new features game made things easier with the player: you no longer had room for the concrete slabs before the buildings, you can group multiple units more easily, and you could build orders to pile into their barracks and factories in order to continue to produce units without watching them constantly.
The best feature of the game was its multiplayer, available at local network or dial-up modem. I had many hours of happy memory blasting (and hence blasted), while my friends playing this game. I still have nightmares about NOD swarms of motorcycles next to my base from all directions.
The game was extremely popular. Its sequel, Command & Conquer: Red Alert two million copies sold within one year of its launch.
